Morocco is an amazing country, full of breathtaking landscapes, stunning architecture, and such a rich culture. From the Sahara Desert to the vibrant medinas, you can build an exciting itinerary that will fit your interests. There is so much to do and explore! 

Not to mention that it’s a really good budget destination. It might not be the cheapest country out there, but you can find incredibly cheap accommodations if you are ready to sacrifice a little bit of comfort (but some places are pretty good for the price). Food and transportation can also be remarkably cheap. In fact, Morocco is the kind of country where you can travel and spend a lot or almost nothing. You have the choice, depending on how much luxury you want. 

We share here our 2 weeks itinerary with you, but know that it’s very simple to get around the country and that you could easily elaborate your own itinerary starting from another city. 

Also, make sure to check our post about the essential things to know before traveling to Morocco. You want to inform yourself correctly before leaving since the success of your trip depends a lot on your preparation. There are many mistakes you can avoid this way!

It’s also best to know about the culture first so you know what to expect and can prepare yourself mentally and respect their mentality! We were glad we did our research before leaving.

CASABLANCA

Casablanca may be your first stop if you land there as we did. To reach the city center, it’s best to take the bus or the train, as it will be very cheap (from 2$ to 5$). Taxi is another option, but it costs around 25-35$ for the 45 min ride. Make sure to negotiate the price firmly before agreeing to jump in. 

This city is not the most popular in Morocco, but we believe it has its own charm and unique things to do. For instance, of all the things we’ve seen in the country, the Mosque Hassam-II was by far one of our favorite.

We think Casablanca should be part of your itinerary, even if it’s only for a quick stop. In our opinion, 2 nights are enough, as it gives you an entire day to wander around.

MARRAKECH

Seriously, who can travel to Morroco without visiting Marrakech? This city was our second stop, and we reached it easily by a 2h40 min train from Casablanca. Now it’s worth mentioning that it is a VERY touristic destination. Check out our advice and complete guide for Marrakech here. 

That being said, this does not prevent the city from being an absolute must-see. It’s exciting, vibrant, and full of action! We spend 5 nights in the medina since we wanted to take day trips from there.

OUZOUD WATERFALLS

We took this day trip from Marrakech. It is a VERY affordable trip (we paid 18 euros for an entire day, transport included!). Enjoying a bit of Moroccan nature after spending a while in noisy cities is more than welcome!

You’ll leave early in the morning from the Jamaa El Fnaa Square and drive 3 hours to reach the province of Azilal, where those spectacular waterfalls are located.

There is a walk in the woods to get there, and the trail is great. Monkeys are part of the trip as well, so be prepared to make nice encounters. You’ll also savor a delicious meal with a wonderful view (check out the picture on our home page!).

SAHARA DESERT 3-DAYS TOUR

We then took a 3-day trip to the desert. You NEED to do this if you travel to Morroco. 

This kind of tour is great because it can start from Marrakech (or Fes, Chefchaouen…) and end somewhere else. You have the liberty to choose. The one we opted for ended in Fes, which was our next destination. 

Most of the 3-days tours include a night in a hotel (we slept in the Dades Valley), and a night in a Berber camp in the desert.

You will also visit the town of Aït Ben Haddou as part of your itinerary, a beautiful Ksar where many movie scenes have been shot. We wrote a complete article about it here, make sure to read it! You don’t want to miss out on that activity. And yes, group tours are really cheap for what you get!

FES

Fes is famous for its tanneries, but it’s also where you find the oldest and biggest medina in North Africa. To give you an idea, the medina is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. 

We suggest you spend at least 2 days exploring the city. Be prepared though, as it’s a very chaotic medina, and you can easily get lost in this maze. It’s really best to arrive there during the day, otherwise, your first impression might not be the best. (Guess when we arrived!)

However, Fes has something magical, and you wouldn’t want to miss it.

CHEFCHAOUEN

The famous blue Perl! Chefchaouen was a real ‘’coup de coeur’’ for us. This city is A LOT smaller and quieter than the ones we previously talked about, and it’s more than welcome at the end of the trip. 

It’s a blue paradise, and the way to reach it from Fes is by bus (there are no trains). You’ll pay around 5-10 euros only. It’s a comfortable 4 hours journey served by the CTM Morocco bus company. Even though it’s pretty long, you can’t miss this city.  

You’ll want to book at least 2 nights there to take the time to explore every corner of it and hike a bit to admire the sunset from the Riff Mountains.

TANGIER

Last but not least stop! To be honest, the reason we went to Tangier was that we had a plane to take there. You are most likely to return to your city of departure instead, but that was not the case for us. 

That being said, if you want to visit Tangier, it’s reachable by bus from Chefchaouen. It’s again extremely cheap (3-6 euros) and takes about 2h45.

 The Mosque is beautiful, and the beach promenade and the pier are really great! 

Finally, we would also recommend that you take at least a one-day tour to Essaouira, a charming coastal city. We regret not having done it, so if you have time to include it in your itinerary go ahead!
